For those of you who doubt
the health risks associated with tobacco and alcohol you have obviously never
read the story of 38 year old Jeff Foran from Foreman Arkansas. I came across this old story about how the
highly intoxicated Mr. Foran jumped from his automobile to retrieve his
cigarette which had blown out the window. The car was traveling at 100 kph!
State Trooper Jamie Gravies
said that Foran suffered extreme trauma to his nose, eyes and chin and was
lucky to be alive. It was the preacher Billy Sunday who said "Sin can be
forgiven but stupid is forever."
It’s easy to laugh in disbelief at Mr. Foran’s actions, but he was just hurrying the process along, he survived the leap from the car but chances are he’ll eventually die from lung cancer, heart trouble or a motor vehicle accident caused by his life style. And we wonder why he can’t see the writing on the wall.
Not as obvious, at least from the outside are the self-destructive things that we do emotionally and spiritually, the bitterness and un-forgiveness we lug around, things that eat away at us from the inside. And if we keep doing them it puts us intellectually on par with the Jeff Forans of the world. Have a great week and remember: To see what is really possible, you will have to attempt the impossible.
